Mandhata World congratulates Hansa, daughter of Chhaganbhai B Patel (Kadoli) of Gwendolen Road Leicester for being awarded an OBE in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours List.


Hansa has been awarded an OBE in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours List for services to young people from Black and Minority Ethnic Backgrounds.

Hansa is an Independent Consultant working on Organisational Development and Sexual Health issues. She has particular expertise in the development and delivery of culturally and linguistically appropriate service provision for Black and Minority Ethnic Communities.

Hansa is an Associate Consultant with The National Children’s Bureau, Sex Education Forum, Age Concern England, Family Planning Association, The Consortium on Opportunities for Volunteering and the National Council for Voluntary Organisations.

She has co-authored “The Really Easy Guide to Commissioning for the Voluntary Sector” and compiled a "Positive Woman's Survival Kit". She has also produced “Guidelines for Service Providers on Sexual Health work with Hindu Communities”.

Her key achievements include:

Pioneering strategic service development and delivery with the South Asian, Turkish, Arab and Iranian Communities with respect to HIV/AIDS and Sexual Health across a range of different constituencies.

Contributing to the development and integration of culturally and linguistically appropriate mainstream services for Black and Minority Ethnic Communities.

Contributing to organisational development issues such as strategic planning with respect to Fundraising, Policies and Procedures, the development of Monitoring and Evaluation Systems, Recruitment and Selection Processes and Line Management Structures.

Contributing to strategic policy development for the Government at a national level for Sexual Health and Teenage Pregnancy issues.

QUALIFICATIONS

Hansa is a B.Sc. Hons. Graduate in Sociology and Applied Social Studies, she also has a Certificate of Qualification in Social Work (CQSW) and a Certificate in Training and Development from the Institute of Training and Development.

Hansa has been employed as a Social Worker, a Youth Worker, a Policy and Service Development Officer for Minority Ethnic Communities in a Local Authority, a Generic Trainer in a Social Services Department and as a Specialist HIV/AIDS Trainer with a Corporate remit also in a Local Authority. Prior to becoming an Independent Consultant she was the Director of a HIV/AIDS and Sexual Health Charity providing culturally and linguistically appropriate education, prevention and support services for the South Asian, Turkish, Arab and Iranian Communities both in the UK and Internationally.
